Lab Armor™ Beads are small, non-uniform metal beads comprised of dry, metallic thermal alloy designed to replace water in a water bath or ice in an ice bucket. Generally, any water bath without moving parts can be converted to a dry bath.

Consistent performance
- Lab Armor™ beads maintain uniform temperature better than water by transferring heat more slowly. A Lab Armor™ bead bath has a working temperature range of -80°C to 180°C.
Easy use and maintenance
- The Lab Armor™ bead bath can remain 'always-on' and ready to use. Bottles and tubes stay in place without the need for racks, weights and floats. Water bath maintenance such as emptying, cleaning, and refilling the bath is eliminated because the Lab Armor™ bead bath only needs bi-weekly cleaning with a light spray of 70% ethanol.
Reduced risk of contamination
- The contamination risk of standing water in a water bath is eliminated with a dry Lab Armor™ bead bath. Incubating bottles won't acquire condensation around the caps and bottles removed from a dry bath won't drip water, further reducing the risk of contamination.
Environmentally responsible alternative to water
- Lab Armor™ beads are more energy efficient than water. A bath filled with Lab Armor™ Beads draws 75% (Table 1) and 62.5% (Table 2) less energy when run at 37°C and 65°C, respectively, compared to a bath filled with water run at the same temperatures. They are made from a recyclable material that can be cleaned with ethanol, eliminating the need for water bath germicides that can harm the environment.
